Child PrisonerAn old student of mine has been in prison for the past eighteen months almost. She was sixteen when she was arrested. Her sentence is a maximum of six years with a chance of parole. She will be twenty-two by then. Everyone involved is hoping for at least half of that. right now she should be a normal senior in high school, getting ready for college. She doesn't deserve any prison time. Everyone agreed that she was innocent, except the judge. And if prison isn't bad enough, she's been in the hospital almost more than she's been in prison. Earlier this year, she was taken to the hospital for the second time since she was put in prison. She was diagnosed with a brain infection. She didn't get a break though. Guards handcuffed her to the bed, and watched her use the bathroom. She had more freedom in prison. After two months in the hospital, she was taken back to prison. An innocent seventeen-year-old girl, locked up for murder. It wasn't murder though. Even the parents of the girl who died agree that it wasn't murder. It was an accident. They were at a pool party in July 2011. Both girls went underwater to do handstands. She accidentally pressed down on the other girl's skull because she couldn't see. She didn't mean to hurt anyone. The other girl died from a skull fracture and drowning. A tragic accident, that's all. But it was considered murder by the judge. Even when she gets out of prison she won't be free. She probably won't get accepted into any college, and probably won't get a job. She will have to deal with problems for the rest of her life. I personally don't think it's fair. Your thoughts???
